Trick or Treat: Give and get

October 24, 2018

Whether you’ll be giving or receiving, have a fun and safe Halloween! Enjoy these tips:

Giving candy?

Avoid giving candies that contain common allergens like peanuts.
Let trick-or-treaters know you’re at home. Light up any decorations and turn on your front door light.
Have a clear pathway to your door, to help visitors avoid stepping into areas where they shouldn’t.

Going trick-or-treating?

Don’t go alone. Enjoy trick-or-treating together with family or friends. Young children should always be supervised by a responsible adult.
Bring flashlights, glow sticks or other illuminated devices for improved visibility.
Be mindful of cars on the road. Stick to sidewalks and look both ways before crossing the street.
Go to homes that are lit. If a home is dark, it’s likely they’re not handing out treats.
Respect people’s property. Admire, but avoid touching, Halloween decorations.
Inspect your treats before consuming. If the wrapping is open or the candy looks or smells odd, throw it away.
